more..
There are so much to see in Dongdaemun but also so much to eat. As most Dongadaemun population are, all the time VERY busy and operate under the motto ‘the quicker, the more money’, they don’t like to wait. That’s probably why there are so many street food vendors and delivery services. Another thing, Dongdaemun market is like a jungle for the ‘fittest’ and as far as the food goes, it’s a jungle for the ‘the most delicious’. There’s little chance you’ll come across street food or delivery food in Dongdaemun you don’t think is delicious and of good value.
Mong-sil-nae is one of those restaurants suited for fast-paced Dongdaemun environment and is the one I strongly, strongly recommend. It is one of the most well-known ones to the Dongdaemun locals and to many occasional visitors. There are only two dishes to choose from so obviously you don’t have to ache wondering what to choose. The menus change every day and they’re written on a white board. You can ask to refill side dishes. Food is served within seconds you order but of course, there’s no need to doubt on its taste. It’s a simple but delicious, home-cooked Korean food. Every dish on menu is KRW 6,000(roughly USD 5.5). Actually, me and my colleagues went there last night and I have cravings again already. Yum…
Oh, forgot to mention, Mong-sil-nae is open from PM 8:00~AM 4:00 (the hours when Dongdaemun most vibrantly operates)
The little green sign says ‘몽실네(Mong-sil-nae)’. It’s a small tent attached to a even smaller cubicle unit in a parking lot.
It’s no fancy restaurant but trust me, food is greeeeaaat.
Menu. The two dishes of the day.
We had the 사골우거지국. It’s similar to Hungarian goulash. It’s a thick soup with beef and vegetables in it. So good.
I strongly recommend to any of you who want to try home-cooked, authentic Korean food at affordable price. And yes, cash only!
Will add how to get to Mong-sil-nae soon.
